A true ball player who grew up under the legendary Buck Stamps, Whitey Dog was a standout at second base, and as a runner often made it there as well. A complete authority of the wiley ways of other Frosty Mug Dogs, Whitey Dog played a valuable role as a real Dog supporter, a virtual “Doug Locater” when games began with no Gilly Dog in sight. Whitey Dog’s on base percentage (with softball) was admirable; at the Mug, his on base percentage was known only in Soddy Daisey.
